Would you like to walk the camino Portugués? And experience the unique feeling of pilgrimage? During your camino Portugués you walk in 7 stages from Tui to Santiago de Compostela. You follow the route from the famous camino to the pilgrim town of Santiago. The total number of kilometers is 125 and the stages are about 20 km per day. That may seem short, but keep in mind that it is not a flat route.
During your camino Portugués you start in the medieval town of Tui to Santiago de Compostela in green and natural Galicia. Located on the Minho River and the border with Portugal, Tui is the starting point for this beautiful pilgrimage. With its maze of small streets and famous cathedral, Tui is one of the most beautiful towns in Galicia. You pass Pontevedra with its beautiful bridge. Pontevedra has been the most important commercial center of this region since the Middle Ages. You will find many palaces, beautiful plazas and many richly decorated monasteries and churches.
After Caldas de Reis, the Camino Portugués runs through chestnut forests with eucalyptus trees. Via Padrón, famous for the green peppers, you reach Santiago de Compostela after a last climb. The final destination of your camino Portugués. Along the way you will enjoy the cultural richness, the delicious gastronomy and the cordiality of the local inhabitants.

After arriving at the airport, go to Tui. You may still have some time to explore this beautiful town, located above the Rio Minho. The one gets lost in the narrow streets. And the cathedral is definitely worth a visit. From here the next day you start Camino Portugués, your pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
You start your pilgrimage with the stage from Tui to O Porrino, over 16 km. A short stage, so you can get in there or visit Tui in the morning. The camino Portugués takes you via a paved road to the medieval bridge over the Rio Louro. Today you walk through the valley of this river. Perhaps immediately one of the most beautiful part of the camino Portugués. The modern city of O Porrino is the end of this stage.
The camino Portugués will take you to Redondela today. On the way you keep the Rio Louro in your sights. And you also cross it via a medieval bridge. Today the camino Portugues alternately runs through forest paths, through vineyards and you also pass the highest point of this part of the camino Portugués. Your final destination is Redondela. A beautiful town with a small historic center and beautiful church, dedicated to Santiago. How could it be different…
Today you will again head for Pontevedra through fields and vineyards. At the top of Alto de Lomba you have a magnificent view over the Ria de Vigo. The path now descends to the beautifully coastal Arcade (recommended if you like oysters). Farm roads and rural paths then take you to Pontevedra. A pleasant city with many bars and restaurants. It’s great to relax and get ready for tomorrow’s stage.
Today an easy stage is planned. You leave Pontevedra via the bridge over the river Lerez. With final destination Caldas de Reis. The Camino Portugués leads you again between green fields, vineyards and chestnut forests. We walk through the valley to Caldas de Reis. This place is known as a spa. There are several natural hot springs that were already a popular stopping place for tired pilgrims in Roman times.
Today the camino Portugués will take you to Padrón. But you have to do something for that! Via beautiful forest paths you first climb to the village to the village of Santa Marina with a beautiful Romanesque church. Through dense pine forests you walk further to the top of O Pino. There Padrón is already in sight! During the descent you will pass the 12th century church of San Xulian. Padrón is known for its green chilies that you should definitely taste. But also rest well, because tomorrow the last leg of the camino Portugués will take you to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

From there you can see the towers of Santiago de Compostella for the first time. What a great moment that will be! Once in Santiago de Compostela it is time for some traditional pilgrim rituals. Including the last stamp in your pilgrim’s passport and the collection of your Compostella.
