We are so excited to introduce our brand new adventure on the stunning coast of Portugal: the Fishermen’s Trail! This summer, the WAW team walked this amazing route ourselves, and we’re thrilled to let you know that it’s finally available to book.
What is the Fishermen’s Trail?
The Fishermen’s Trail is part of the famous Rota Vicentina, a network of hiking and cycling routes in southwest Portugal. Stretching 226 km along the Atlantic coast from São Torpes in the Alentejo to Lagos in the Algarve, it’s often described as one of the most breathtaking coastal trails in the world. And after experiencing it ourselves, we can confirm it’s no exaggeration!
If you’ve walked the Camí de Cavalls in Menorca, this coastal path will feel like its Portuguese cousin: wild, rugged, and full of ocean views. Along the way you’ll pass fishing villages, hidden coves, and dramatic cliffs, always with the Atlantic at your side. Read more about the Fishermen’s Trail here!
How to walk the Fishermen’s Trail?
We’ve put together two carefully designed trips on the Fishermen’s Trail: one shorter route with the highlights and one full coastal adventure from start to finish. Both options are easy to reach from Faro International Airport (FAO) or Lisbon International Airport (LIS), with smooth transfers to the trail.
Wherever you start, your luggage will be transported for you, breakfast is always included, and you will stay in charming local accommodations so you can simply enjoy the walk:
- 8 days – 6 walking stages, 112 km, from Almograve to Sagres
This version gives you the essence of the Fishermen’s Trail: dramatic cliffs, golden beaches, and the final stretch to Cabo de São Vicente, the southwestern tip of Europe. - 15 days – 13 walking stages, 226 km, from São Torpes to Lagos
The full journey for those who want it all: every stage of the trail, from the quiet Alentejo coast to the vibrant Algarve, with hidden coves, fishing villages, and unforgettable ocean views.
Would you like a tailor-made program? Don’t hesitate to ask — we’ll be happy to think along with you.
Curious about what each day looks like on the Fishermen’s Trail? We’ve written a blog post that takes you through the stages step by step, with highlights and practical tips.
