Great news for Camino walkers! New flights on the Camino have been introduced for the summer season of 2026.

From the Netherlands, between the Spanish cities of Santiago de Compostela and Amsterdam, and between Oviedo and Amsterdam. These routes are available for booking from 16 December 2026.

But our walkers from Ireland can also enjoy some good news, as besides the already existing flight between Dublin and Santiago, there will now also be a new seasonal direct flight between the southern Irish city of Cork and Santiago.

Below you can find all the details about these new flights, but first things first: a couple of weeks ago we already wrote about the Santiago Airport closure between 23 April and 27 May 2026. So all flights to and from Santiago de Compostela in general will only operate after 27 May 2026, including the flights below. In this same article, we also wrote about the new flight between New York and Santiago de Compostela – exciting news for our US-based walkers – also starting in the summer of 2026.

Now let’s get to our new flight details about Amsterdam–Santiago, Amsterdam–Oviedo, and Cork–Santiago, starting from mid-2026.

New direct flights to Santiago de Compostela and Oviedo from Amsterdam

For Camino walkers and a big part of our WAW.walkers, the most exciting news is, of course, the addition of new KLM seasonal direct flights from Amsterdam to Santiago de Compostela, the final destination of the Camino de Santiago. Another flight to the city of Oviedo has also been added, which is an important gateway to northern Spain and the Camino Primitivo, especially interesting for those who walk the 16-day version all the way from Oviedo to Santiago. But these new routes are not only interesting for our walkers from the Netherlands, but also for anyone arriving from overseas via the busy international hub of Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, whether from the Americas, Asia, or anywhere else in the world.

PRO TIP: For both routes, it is good to keep in mind that Amsterdam Schiphol Airport tends to get quite busy. Therefore, the airport uses a system where you can book a time slot to go through security. This can be reserved up to three days before your flight, and you should arrive at the airport 15 minutes before your scheduled time slot.

Let’s break down this new flight between Santiago de Compostela and Amsterdam. This route starts on 30 May 2026. Between 29 March and 3 July – so most of spring and early summer – and between 31 August and 24 October – the autumn months – you can fly on Saturdays and Sundays.

ANOTHER PRO TIP: If you arrive on a different day to Saturday or Sunday, this is a great opportunity to spend some extra days in Santiago, or perhaps even continue on the Camino Finisterre. In this case you could walk in 4 days to Finisterre – as you don’t need an extra day for getting to Santiago anymore – or all the way through Finisterre to Muxía in 6 or 7 days, then go back to Santiago de Compostela and take the flight to Amsterdam.

Then, between 4 July and 30 August, the busiest months on the Camino, there are daily flights between Santiago de Compostela and Amsterdam. The flight time is approximately 2.5 hours in both directions.

Vueling has also been operating seasonal direct flights from Amsterdam to Santiago de Compostela, usually on Saturdays and Tuesdays during the spring and summer months. Schedules vary by season, so always check their website for the most up-to-date information. Keep in mind that the Santiago Airport closure also applies to Vueling flights!

Let’s also look at the Oviedo–Amsterdam route, which can be especially interesting if you are from the Netherlands and plan to walk the Camino Primitivo, especially its full version during the summer months. In this case, you could fly from Amsterdam to Oviedo, walk the Camino, arrive in Santiago de Compostela, and fly back directly to Amsterdam.

The Amsterdam–Oviedo KLM route starts a bit earlier than the route to Santiago, on 29 March 2026, as it is not affected by the Santiago Airport closure between 23 April and 27 May 2026. The frequency is quite similar: between 29 March and 3 July, and again between 31 August and 24 October, you can fly on Saturdays and Sundays, while during the busiest summer period, between 4 July and 30 August, there are daily flights between Oviedo and Amsterdam. The flight time is just over two hours.

New direct flight to Santiago de Compostela from Cork

Great news for those living in Ireland as well! These flights will operate on Mondays and Thursdays and aim to strengthen Santiago’s international air connectivity and make it easier for visitors from Ireland to reach the city.

Or perhaps Cork could be the perfect post-Camino holiday destination – we can only recommend the lovely Irish summer!
